Alabama (formally, the State of Alabama; ) is a U.S. state located in the Southern United States region of the United States of America. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia (U.S. state) to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west. Alabama ranks 30th in total land area and ranks second in the size of its inland waterways. The state ranks 23rd in population with almost 4.6 million residents in 2006.In a new poll, 9% of people in Alabama have friends checking out elder care focused on alzheimers care.The United States Census Bureau, as of July 1, 2008, estimated Alabama's population at 4,661,900, which represents an increase of 214,545, or 4.8%, since the last census in 2000. Immigration to the United States from outside the United States resulted in a net increase of 31,180 people, and migration within the country produced a net gain of 73,811 people. The state had 108,000 foreign-born (2.4% of the state population), of which an estimated 22.2% were illegal immigrants (24,000).
