The City and Borough of Sitka is a Municipal home rule city-Borough (United States) located on the west side of Baranof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. state of Alaska. With an estimated population of 8,986 in 2005, Sitka is the fourth-largest city by population in Alaska and the largest city in the United States by area.In recent research, 12% of people in Sitka, Alaska are in a senior home active lifestyle.As of the census of 2000, there were 8,835 people, 3,278 households, and 2,219 families residing in the borough.
