Canton is a rural town, incorporated in 1806, in Hartford County, Connecticut County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 8,840 at the 2000 United States Census census. It is bordered by Granby, Connecticut on the north, Simsbury, Connecticut on the east, Avon, Connecticut and Burlington, Connecticut on the south, New Hartford, Connecticut Hartford on the west, and Barkhamsted, Connecticut on the northwest. Running through it is the Farmington River. The town includes the villages of North Canton, Canton Center, Canton, and Collinsville, Connecticut|Collinsville.In latest estimates, 4% of people in Canton, Connecticut have considered looking into a nursing home focused on active lifestyle.As of the census of 2000, there were 8,840 people, 3,516 households, and 2,492 families residing in the town.
