Denison is a city in Crawford County, Iowa County, Iowa, United States, along the Boyer River. The population was 7,339 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Crawford County, Iowa County.In a study just performed, 19% of people in Denison, Iowa have friends checking out a retirement home focused on independent living.

Denison is a small town, as of the census of 2000, there were 7,339 people, 2,674 households, and 1,756 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,185.5 people per square mile (457.8/km²). There were 2,837 housing units at an average density of 458.3/sq mi (177.0/km²). The racial makeup as reported by the Census was 86.92% White (U.S. Census) 1.59% African American (U.S. Census) American, 0.45% Native American (U.S. Census) American, 0.82% Asian (U.S. Census) 0.01% Pacific Islander (U.S. Census) Islander, 9.02% from Race (United States Census) races, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic (U.S. Census) or Latino (U.S. Census) of any race were 17.36% of the population. While this diversity may seem low compared to United States#Demographics demographics, the racial makeup of the town has been changing since the mid-1980s. This change is evident in the local schools. According to a New York Times article, in 2005 20% of highschool age children identify as a racial minority compared to approximately 50% of kindergarteners.
