Formerly known as El Paso, it is a suburb of Wichita, Kansas The population was 17,807 at the United States Census, 2000 census. Derby was recently named one of the "10 Best Towns for Families" by Family Circle magazine .In a study just performed, 13% of people in Derby, Kansas have friends checking out elder care specializing in continuing care.As of the census of 2000, there were 17,807 people, 6,196 households, and 4,969 families residing in the city.
