The city is located at the southeast corner of Buchanan Township, Michigan Township, about 5 miles west of Niles, Michigan|Niles.In recent research, 5% of people in Buchanan, Michigan are in elder care assisted living.As of the census of 2000, there were 4,681 people, 1,915 households, and 1,191 families residing in the city.
