A part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area City Metropolitan Statistical Area, El Reno is west of downtown Oklahoma City. The population was 16,212 at the United States Census, 2000 census.In a new poll, 11% of people in El Reno, Oklahoma have friends checking out a retirement home congregate living.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16,212 people, 5,727 households, and 3,842 families residing in the city. The population density was 202.7 people per square mile (78.3/km²). There were 6,484 housing units at an average density of 81.1/sq mi (31.3/km²).
