Kennewick is a city in Benton County, Washington County in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Washington, near the Hanford Site nuclear site. It is the most populous of the three cities collectively referred to as the Tri-Cities, Washington (the others being Pasco, Washington and Richland, Washington Kennewick is located along the southwest bank of the Columbia River, opposite Pasco and just south of the confluence of the Columbia and Yakima River rivers. The population was 65,860 at the state Office of Financial Management's estimate in April 2008.In latest estimates, 12% of people in Kennewick, Washington are in a retirement community focused on assisted living.

As of the census of 2000, there were 54,693 people, 20,786 households, and 14,176 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,384.9 people per square mile (920.9/km²). There were 22,043 housing units at an average density of 961.2/sq mi (371.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 82.93% White (U.S. Census) 1.14% African American (U.S. Census) or Race (United States Census) American, 0.93% Native American (U.S. Census) American, 2.12% Asian (U.S. Census) 0.11% Pacific Islander (U.S. Census) Islander, 9.4% from Race (United States Census) races, and 3.37% from two or more races. 15.55% of the population was Hispanics in the United States or Latino (U.S. Census) of any race. 18.2% were of germans 9.6% english people 8.5% irish people and 8.5% united states ancestry according to Census 2000. 84.6% spoke english language and 12.5% spanish language as their first language.
